October 1st marked the start of a new year for ASCE YMF. I am excited to be serving my term as president this year! We had an excellent year under Greg Kump’s leadership with our local group participating in over 40 events. I don’t know that we can top that this year, but I have an energetic Board and tons of great Committee chairs that I know are willing to give it a shot. I am also excited to say that 10 of this year’s leaders are taking on a position for the first time. This enthusiasm is great and I want to thank everybody for their commitment to making ASCE YMF San Diego the best group out there. We wouldn’t exist without all of your hard work and continued commitment to go above and beyond the status quo. That being said we are always looking for more help, so please get involved by sitting on a scholarship committee, helping volunteer at the ASCE golf tournament or whatever event catches your interest.
We held our annual retreat to lead the changing of the guard in September at Palomar Mountain and to brainstorm for this year. As always we had ideas to take things to the next level. You can expect us to perfect our PE Review Course, revitalize our Shadow Program, get involved in ACE mentoring, try out some new volunteering events, increase our interaction with the UCSD and SDSU student groups, continue to provide great tours of projects around the County and with 2 social chairs you can expect a whole lot of fun! As always you can expect a ski/snowboarding trip to Mammoth at the beginning of 2012 and this year’s Western Region Younger Member Council Meeting will be held in Portland, Oregon in January. Stay tuned for events galore coming through a Project Partners e-mail near you and I hope to see you out at our next member meeting or event!
