He has over 10 years of experience providing geotechnical consulting services on a wide variety of projects including utilities, public works, and schools. A project highlight includes managing the geotechnical and materials testing program for the Angola Liquid Natural Gas Plant in Soyo, Angola. He currently works as a Project Manager for VO Engineering. He enjoys tennis and surfing in his spare time.
Rob McMillan, EIT, PLS email@example.com Teaches: Survey Rob McMillan is a Senior Transportation Surveyor with Caltrans, supervising the Construction Survey Notes Unit in District 11. After 5 years of municipal surveying and engineering experience, he joined Caltrans in 1990, obtaining PLS 7267 in 1996. Rob promoted to Caltrans HQ as Chief of Surveys Standards in 2006, editing the Caltrans Surveys Manual, and publishing the first standards for the use of stationary and mobile terrestrial laser scanning (STLS and MTLS) for transportation infrastructure projects. In 2011, he rotated into the position of Chief of Land Surveys Training. While serving as Acting Chief of HQ Office of Land Surveys for 5 months in 2012, he was instrumental in the procurement and deployment of the first Caltrans MTLS system. Rob worked in District 4 as Chief of New Technology, GPS, and Survey Coordination for 9 months during 2013 and 2014 overseeing completion of the laser scanned as-built of the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge system. He returned to HQ as Chief of Survey Coordination in mid-2014, and District 11 in 2016.
Rob is a graduate of Southern Illinois University. He has served as a land surveying instructor at Southwestern College and Sacramento City College, as well as for PLS and PE review courses. Rob is active in the California Land Surveyors Association (CLSA), currently serving as the BPELSG Liaison, and has held officer and director positions for the Sacramento Chapter, as well as statewide Education Committee Chair. He has been elected CLSA Treasurer for 2018. In addition to the PLS, Rob holds Engineer in Training, Commercial Pilot, and Advanced Ground Instructor certificates.
