Transportation Engineer (Civil)
Transportation Engineers (TE) perform engineering duties throughout District 11 including Project Development and Construction. Project Development includes the divisions of Traffic Operations, Maintenance Engineering, Design, Environmental, Engineering, Planning and Program/Project Management. Based on annual workload, delivery commitments, and the TE Rotation Process, incumbent may be assigned by the District to a variety of positions in an office or field environment. When working in Project Development, incumbent will be under the direct supervision of a Branch Chief, a Senior Transportation Engineer. When working in Construction, incumbent will be under the direct supervision of an Area Construction Engineer, a Senior Transportation Engineer, in a field environment. In either environment, the incumbent performs various transportation engineering tasks of average difficulty accomplished through understanding and applying Caltrans standards, manuals, guidelines, policies, directives and computer software applications. Travel is required. Employee is required to have a current driver’s license, when operating a State owned vehicle or driving another vehicle for state business.
This assignment is subject to the District 11 TE Rotation Process, which is mandatory for all new hires. The TE Rotation Process includes assignments of six months to one year in length and is intended to be completed within the first three years of hire.
Eligibility for hire is determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) Exam. You must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Transportation Engineer(Civil) Exam is located here:

Prepare and submit purchase orders
Develop and maintain a schedule with the Superintendent
Maintain appropriate job files
Ensure company policy, procedures, and standards are met
Proficient with Microsoft office, specifically Word and Excel
Proficient with Bluebeam
Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents and subcontracts

Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning and conducting subsurface investigation and laboratory testing programs
Preparation of technical memoranda and reports
Providing geologic/geotechnical support during construction
Providing hydrogeologic and geologic analyses, geologic mapping and rock mass characterization
Field inspection and logging of boreholes
Investigation/evaluation of fault activity to locate and characterize fault hazards and risks

BS in Earth Science or Civil Engineering program from an accredited University
MS or PhD in Earth Science, Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering (focus on engineering geology, desired)
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in engineering geology or geological engineering practice
Functional understanding of structural geology and rock discontinuity characterization
Knowledge of Sand Diego/South Coast geotechnical and geologic practices in geology and hydrogeology
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Ability and willingness for some travel and field work.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) in the State of California
