March Meeting - Zoom Presentation
Tuesday, March 16th at 6pm via Zoom
General Body Meeting
Please join us as we hear about an exciting ongoing project in San Diego that combines structural, transportation, construction, and environmental disciplines. Zoom Link will be provided upon registration.
Project: West Mission Bay Drive Bridge Project: The existing four-lane West Mission Bay Drive Bridge was completed in the early 1950’s and will be replaced by two new three-lane bridges, improving transportation across the San Diego River. Improvements of the project include: two new parallel bridge structures with three lanes in each direction; a shared pedestrian and bike path on both new bridges; and roadway widening and improvements along Sports Arena Boulevard, West Mission Bay Drive and the westbound I-8 off-ramp.
Speaker Bio: James R. Brown, PE, Associate Bridge Engineer – Civil, City of San Diego
When exploring what he wanted to do in life, he knew building something people would remember was on the top of the list; realizing, there is no greater satisfaction than seeing your work come to life from blueprint to completed structure.
James graduated in 1999 from Colorado State University, with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Civil Engineering, occupying the next 6-years at Washington Group International. He worked on bridge and roadway projects in Idaho (various project take-offs and close-outs), Virginia (Pocahontas Parkway) and California (SR-125 Toll Road).
The next 10-years he worked as a project manager/engineer for Williams and Sons Masonry working on numerous masonry projects throughout San Diego, including Cathedral High School, Mater Dei High School, and the San Diego International Airport Car Rental Center.
James joined the City of San Diego in 2016 as an Assistant Engineer in the Engineering and Capital Projects, Construction Management and Field Services Division. He has been a resident engineer on the Seismic Retrofit of the Georgia Street Bridge, Friars Road and 163, and the West Mission Bay Drive Bridge project. James was promoted to Associate Engineer in 2019.
We hope to see you there!
